On the Road with The News

October 19, 2012 – Norton Arts Center, Danville, KY

Nice little theater that played host to the Vice- Presidential debate just a week earlier. It’s good to be back playing. Personally, I don’t do too well with not working. I’d much rather be playing!

August 15, 2012 – Greek Theater, Los Angeles, CA

It was really nice to have 2 days off in L.A. before this show. I went down to Newport Beach to visit my daughter, Julia. We went to the Getty museum on Tuesday, which, if you haven’t seen it, is amazing. Everyone went their own way after Denver, with a

August 12, 2012 – Comfort Dental Amphitheater, Denver, CO

This place used to be called Fiddler’s Green and I remember it being the last show of the “Small World” tour in 1989. Good to see my old junior high and high school pal, Mark Bower, who has lived here for many years. Mark was the bass player in my

August 10, 2012 – Ravinia Music Festival, Chicago, IL

This is a great festival held yearly in Highland Park, north of downtown Chicago. We’ve played it a few times now (we’ve played EVERYWHERE a few times now!) A packed house and a really fun night. It’s finally getting a little bit cooler as well. Those last 3 weeks have

August 9, 2012 – DTE Energy Music Theater, Clarkston, MI

We’re heading back west now. I seem to recall blogging about DTE, or Pine Knob as we know it, last year on the “Soulsville ” tour. We have now played this theater, about 40 miles north of downtown Detroit, 19 times over the past 28 years. Detroit has always been

August 4, 2012 – MGM Grand Theater Foxwoods, Mashantucket, CT

They tell me that this is the largest casino in the US, and I believe it. The theater is gorgeous. This is the 4th or 5th time we’ve played here, and it’s always a good time because it sounds awesome. The days seem to be flying by SO FAST.

August 3, 2012 – Tropicana Hotel Theater, Atlantic City, NJ

Don’t know why, but the venue was moved from the Tower theater in Philly to the Tropicana in A.C. Our friends Tom Johnston, Marc Russo, Ed and Sam Ryan, and John McFee from the Doobie Brothers were in town with a night off, so they came to the show. We

July 29, 2012 – Nikon Amphitheater, Jones Beach, NY

It was a beautiful evening in Jones Beach, out on Long Island. The theater is literally on the water. We’ve played here many times over the years, and it’s always a fun time. Rob Sudduth pointed out to me that Bill O’Reilly was in the fourth row center, clapping on

July 28, 2012 – PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ

This is the old Garden State Arts Center that we’ve played for the last 25 years. Thunderstorms blew through all day but it didn’t stop people from hanging out on the lawn. Another hot and steamy one, what a summer so far! I’m getting too old for this. We’re dying

July 27, 2012 – Tag’s Summerstage, Big Flats, NY

When we were driving in to our hotel in Corning, N.Y., a huge thunderstorm cell was blowing through. I got to my room and watched the wind pick up to about 50 MPH, I could see rotation forming directly overhead, and sure enough, 13 miles down the valley a tornado
